Seeing Green in March 2020: at the Mansfield Pickle Parade
Springtime and the arrival of the month of March have many people seeing green. As a planned community, Las Colinas has plenty of greenery including a pair of beautiful golf courses. However, taking a short 45-minute drive south down President George Bush Turnpike will find visitors engulfed in green during the annual Mansfield Pickle Parade.
The Pickle's Past
The town of Mansfield lays claim to the world's one-and-only parade dedicated to the pickle with its annual St. Paddy's Pickle Parade and Palooza held over a weekend close to this green-letter date. It all began with a small event in 2012 and has expanded to feature dozens of floats and marching bands parading through the city street leading to plenty of entertainment, laughs and a whole lot of fun.
Precursing the Parade
At 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020, the Pet Parade begins on Main Street while a Cornhole Tournament unfolds nearby at the corner of Oak and Smith Streets. An hour later at 6:00 p.m., the Beer Keg Race will follow a similar route as the canines did down Main. Meanwhile, Texas native, three-time Entertainer of the Year award winner, Country Western superstar Cody Wayne performs on the Best Maid Stage on Oak Street.
On Saturday the 14th, the festivities continue with the Pickle Runs held at 500 E. Dallas at 8:00 a.m. and there's more live entertainment when the Run4Cover Band from California performs on the Best Maid Stage at 9:00 a.m. The Food Court, Vendor Market, and Pickle Playground will all open at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Baby Parade at 10:30 a.m. all awaiting the main event at 1:00 p.m.
Following the world's only Pickle Parade, there's more music starting at 2:30 p.m. from singer-songwriter Coffey Anderson and additional performances beginning at 5:00 p.m. also on the Best Maid Stage. This annual event and the namesake Pickle Posse have helped to raise over $35,000 for local charities including:
- Packing bags for Feed the Kids For Summer project
- Donating to the local animal shelter
- Funding scholarships for graduating Mansfield high school seniors
- Helping to build houses for Habitat for Humanity
